Direct Air Capture of CO2 by Microalgae with Buoyant Beads Encapsulating Carbonic Anhydrase

چکیده
Microalgae cultures have promise as a CO2 sink for atmospheric carbon and sustainable source of food chemical feedstocks. However, large-scale microalgae cultivation is currently limited by the need to provide dioxide from point sources, diffusion too slow. Carbonic anhydrase (CA) an effective enzyme facilitate dissolution that could be used enhance photosynthetic uptake this greenhouse gas. Here we investigate means retaining CA at surface algae ponds direct air capture cross-linking with glutaraldehyde (GA) before encapsulation into buoyant calcium alginate beads. Coomassie Blue dyeing Wilbur–Anderson assays confirmed successful bonding Microscopic images showed paraffin-embedded framework. The CA–GA beads retain virtually all hydrase activity throughout 10 assay cycles. Compared natural growth rate 22.7 ± 0.5 mg L–1 day–1, free increased productivity Nannochloropsis salina 37 3 day–1 40 1 respectively. further provided stable enhancement three rounds cultivation, confirming these can readily recovered re-used, which promising industrial biomass production.

Investigations of the rapid enzyme carbonic anhydrase have now been extended by crystallographic analysis at high CO2 pressures to examine the movements of water molecules in different steps of the catalysis. The rate of catalysis seems well explained by the assembled observations.

متن کاملMonocarboxamidomethyl carbonic anhydrase purified by affinity chromatography.
A monocarboxamidomethyi derivative of human erythrocyte carbonic anhydrase B was purified by affinity chromatography. The modified enzyme possesses 3% of the COshydrating activity and 30% of the esterase activity of the native enzyme. The esterase activity is inhibited by the usual carbonic anhydrase inhibitors although the K; values are, in general, higher than for native enzyme. The pH depend...

The COZ hydration and HC03dehydration activities of human red cell carbonic anhydrase isozymes B and C (HCAB and HCAC) have been studied as a function of temperature from 0” to 37°C. The Arrhenius plots of In kcat versus 1/T are linear for both isozymes in both hydration and dehydration reactions, indicating that the rate-determining steps remain unchanged over this temperature range. The 37°C ...
